Accommodation

When you choose to study in Northland, your school or institution will arrange accommodation for you. A range of options are available.

Homestays ~

Homestay accommodation is very popular with international students choosing to study in Whangarei as it offers you a great opportunity to learn about New Zealand culture and practice your English. Your homestay family will provide your meals and also take care of your laundry.

As a smaller city, our institutions have much closer relationships with our host families than most of those you will find in bigger cities. These relationships, combined with our adherence to the New Zealand Ministry of Education’s Code of Practice, means you can be confident that your New Zealand family will take good care of you.

Secondary School Hostels ~

Many of the secondary schools in Whangarei offer hostel facilities for international students. These also offer a great environment for practicing English and meeting new friends. Please ask the institution of your choice about their hostel facilities.

Flatting ~

"...a great opportunity to lean
 about New Zealand culture
 and practice your English..."

Many older students choose to go flatting after they have been in New Zealand for a while. A group of students can rent a house in Whangarei for approximately $60 - $80 per week for a room. You will also need to pay for food, telephone and electricity. Some flats require you to provide your own furniture, however there are a large number of second hand furniture shops in Whangarei where you can buy what you need at very affordable prices.
