About Whangarei
Location ~
Whangarei is located just two hours drive, or a scenic 35 minute
flight, from Auckland in the heart of the North Island's native forest region. It
is situated on a beautiful harbour and is surrounded by bush covered hills. It
has an urban population of approximately 45,000.
Climate ~
Whangarei has a temperate climate with mild winters and warm
summers. Our seasons are opposite to those in the Northern Hemisphere with
winter from June August and summer from December – February. Daytime summer temperatures are approximately 25 – 30 degrees. Daytime winter temperatures are approximately 11 – 16 degrees.

Whangarei offers you modern retail and leisure facilities
including shopping centres, golf courses, fitness centres, heated swimming
pools, tennis courts, cinemas, banks, cafes, bars and restaurants.
Whangarei is located close to many beautiful beaches and just
an hours drive from the spectacular Bay of Islands. There are plenty of
opportunities for you to try activities like fishing, sailing, scuba diving,
windsurfing, surfing and horse riding. You can also join a local sports club to
play rugby, football, netball, hockey, badminton or basketball. This is a great
way to meet kiwis and make new friends.
